Nonequilibrium quantum Landauer principle.

چکیده
Using the operational framework of completely positive, trace preserving operations and thermodynamic fluctuation relations, we derive a lower bound for the heat exchange in a Landauer erasure process on a quantum system. Our bound comes from a nonphenomenological derivation of the Landauer principle which holds for generic nonequilibrium dynamics. Furthermore, the bound depends on the nonunitality of dynamics, giving it a physical significance that differs from other derivations. We apply our framework to the model of a spin-1/2 system coupled to an interacting spin chain at finite temperature.

Non-equilibrium Landauer transport model for Hawking radiation from a black hole
We propose that the Hawking radiation energy and entropy flow rates from a black hole can be viewed as a one-dimensional (1D), nonequilibrium Landauer transport process. Support for this viewpoint comes from previous calculations invoking conformal symmetry in the near-horizon region, which give radiation rates that are identical to those of a single 1D quantum channel connected to a thermal re...
متن کاملMesoscopic transport of fermions through an engineered optical lattice connecting two reservoirs
We study transport of fermions in a system composed of a short optical lattice connecting two finite atomic reservoirs at different filling levels. The average equilibration current through the optical lattice, for strong latticereservoir coupling and finite temperatures, is calculated within the Landauer formalism using a nonequilibrium Green’s functions approach. We moreover determine quantum...
متن کاملEnergy transmutation in nonequilibrium quantum systems
We investigate the particle and heat transport in quantum junctions with the geometry of star graphs. The system is in a nonequilibrium steady state, characterized by the different temperatures and chemical potentials of the heat reservoirs connected to the edges of the graph. We explore the Landauer-Büttiker state and its orbit under parity and time reversal transformations. Both particle numb...
متن کاملA note on the Landauer principle in quantum statistical mechanics
The Landauer principle asserts that the energy cost of erasure of one bit of information by the action of a thermal reservoir in equilibrium at temperature T is never less than kBT log 2. We discuss Landauer’s principle for quantum statistical models describing a finite level quantum system S coupled to an infinitely extended thermal reservoirR. Using Araki’s perturbation theory of KMS states a...
